Surgery update

Devin got out of surgery about 25 minutes ago. The surgeon removed most of the left side of the skull. There was still quite a bit of swelling in the brain. While the surgery was very successful there is still great concern about swelling on the right side. If this does occur they would go in and remove the right side of the skull as well. Right now we are still just waiting.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support for Devin and his family.

Friday night update

Hello friends and family,

The MRI results showed that some time after the fracture that he had suffered a severe stroke on the left side of his brain which will effect his speech, his ability to understand language and his ability to move his right side.

Devin just went into surgery about 20 minutes ago to remove the left side of his skull. They are going to take as much skull to relieve some of the pressure. The surgery is going to be about 3-4 hours with prep.

Please keep baby Devin in your prayers.

Sweet little guy!

CT results

Ct scan results showed a slight increase in swelling. This is a mild case for concern so doctors will be completing an MRI hopefully within the hour. All other numbers are normal (blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate). There continues to be slight fever at 99. His inter cranial pressure is currently at a 16 (below 20 is ideal) so that is good news!

Will keep you posted as soon as we know more information.

Donations

Greetings family and friends,

We have successfully opened an account for Devin and Katy to receive donations. Our intentions with this account are to allow those who feel compelled to donate to this family to be able to do so in a safe and protected manner. Please be advised that all of your donations are tax deductible and Katy will NOT be taxed on your donations. If you wish to donate, please click on the "Donate" button on the left sidebar.

Devin is going to have a long recovery, at this time we are unaware of the length of time, but he will be in the hospital for weeks or potentially months. Loma Linda Medical Center has a facility called the Ronald McDonald house that supports families while their loved ones are receiving treatment. This facility provides families for a small fee a place to live. They assist in meals and help to provide a safe environment that is a "home away from home"

"This is the House where families meet to continue their lives. To eat and sleep. To find their strengths and dry their tears. To look forward with hope to better years. This is the house that becomes their home. This is the house that love built" - http://llrmh.org/

Thank you all for your generous hearts and willingness to serve God by serving others. May you all be blessed abundantly and have a blessed day.

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' " Acts 20:35

Friday Morning update...

Good morning all!

We only have a small amount of information thus far and we apologize for the lack of ability to provide you with detailed descriptions, but the text we received from Katy this morning was very brief. We didn't want to leave you all in the dark so we are trying to forward the information to you the best that we can. Throughout the night Devin's vitals were unstable and fluctuating up and down. They were able to put in the arterial catheter (see previous posts for description) into his groin because that was the only vein that would accept it. When he becomes more stable they will move it to a safer place. They have temporarily placed his body in a paralytic state and had to suction and bag him through the night (We are trying to get more information as to why they are having to do this), ultimately these measures are being used to stabilize him. He was given some blood transfusions and doctors have adjusted his medications accordingly.

Currently, Katy stated that everything looked good enough so they could move him to get a CT scan.

Once we have more details regarding the CT scan we will update you all.

Please continue to keep this sweet boy in your prayers. God is GOOD, and hears your voices!

The Latest...

8:00pm Thursday evening...

Just spoke with Katy and she is in great spirits!! She advised me that Devin's inter cranial pressure is at a 19... Ideally they want it to stay below a 20. So it's within normal limits. His temperature is down to a 99.9 and all other stats are within normal limits.

She truly is handling this so well, she is remaining positive and SO strong. Devin is so blessed to have her as his Mommy and I know in my heart that she radiates through him and he will feel her strength.

May you all have a blessed night and a comforted heart as God is with us all!

Blessings,

Thursday Evening

Hello Friends!

Devin's stats are good! His inter cranial pressure, blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate are all good.

They are currently working on trying to maintain his temperature as he had a fever for a lot of the day. They are trying to bring his fever down from 100 degrees to between 97 and 98 degrees.

They are also attempting to put in arterial catheter: (An arterial line, or art-line, or a-line, is a thin catheter inserted into an artery. It is most commonly used in intensive care medicine and anesthesia to monitor the blood pressure real-time (rather than by intermittent measurement), and to obtain samples for arterial blood gas measurements) Unfortunately they were unsuccessful because they couldn't find a vein so they will be attempting again in a few hours. The primary purpose for this measure is the monitor the amount of blood is flowing to his brain.

Keep up the good prayer works and God bless you all.

Update...

Hi,

The Lord is good and is hearing our prayers!! Praise God. We are seeing beautiful signs of grace! Doctors have completed an EEG and are monitoring his brain activity. They briefly started to bring him out of sedation to evaluate his brain activity.

Little Devin showed signs of movement in his legs, was responding to the touch of Mommy's hands and Katy says she could feel him squeezing her finger Ü He continues to remain in sedation and is on a ventilator.

Please check back as we are hoping to have an update later this evening!!

Summary

On the evening of Tuesday, Septmeber 27, 2011 Devin Adams was admitted to Pomona Valley hospital with shortness of breath. Upon arrival, doctors and nurses accessed his condition and began to run a series of tests. It was concluded that he had a fractured skull, severe swelling and bleeding in his brain.

In order to effectively treat Devin, a team was sent from Loma Linda Children's Hospital to stabilize and transport him. He arrived at Loma Linda Children's hospital late Tuesday evening where he has had numerous CT scans and test completed. He is currently on a ventilator and being sedated so the doctors can monitor his progress and complete any necessary procedures.

Doctors have been able to successfully complete two surgical procedures to release pressure within his brain and to alleviate a build up of brain fluid. There are currently two tubes in his brain, one to continually drain the brain fliud and the other to monitor the amount of oxygen in his brain. Both procedures are continuing to remain successful. The bleeding within his brain has diminished and the primary concern is the swelling. We will continue to update you as we find out more progress.

Thank you and God bless you all.
